OT: The conspiracy theory is still alive!!! :-)
I find there are allot of people with their own conspiracy theories. For instance, there have been many times I have come across paranoid schizophrenics. One time I ran across one at a Denny's restaurant. She was lucid for a short time before jabbering to herself and another invisible person that apparently sat next to her. I managed to find out she was a computer programmer for many years. I could tell by her knowledge computers and the software development process and the history of computers for that period of time, which I discovered during her brief but more stable moments.
As a musing of mine, I wonder if this is the future that waits for me if I stay too long in this field, with just me and my computer in my apartment where I work alone? I sometimes do find myself swearing at the computer. Is this a bad sign? ;-)
Getting back to my topic, this lady sometimes would talk to me about how the "Government" is spying on her, and one day will come and get her. This is about the time she starts talking incoherently. This was her conspiracy theory. She continues to be the bag lady that wanders around aimlessly and sleeps under the moonlight.
In the same restaurant I met another who believed there are people living in the mountains that surround Tucson, AZ. When the conversation continued, I discovered that she means people who live *inside* the mountains, and who are from another planet. She was genuinely afraid that they have been watching her and one day in the future will come for her, since she knows too much. She also believes her blood is poisoned even though trips to the doctor has not turned up anything.
Then there was that time I met an army vet who believed everyone was staring at him and talking about him. He would make up fanciful fictional stories about his past and his parent's past.
There was that time this young waitress had the habit of showing me her snake bites when she wanted my attention. She was taking care of a snake for her boyfriend. And it kept biting her. Yet every day I found her working at the restaurant, she always had new snake bites to show to me. At the same time another waitress, an older woman, became jealous of this conversation I was having with this young waitress, and from then on would not speak to me. Every time she saw me, she would get this real disgusted look on her face and walk off the other direction. She would then go out of her way to avoid me during the rest of my time there. This came as a surprise to me since we never really talked that much, and she never showed me any interest before this incident. Who knows? Perhaps the couple encounters we had over the breakfast bar at the restaurant was enough to have us in her head married off together.
Tucson attracts allot of interesting characters! Much of the world they are living is found strictly inside of their heads.
Just thought I would share some of my Tucson experiences with everyone. :-)
