MeDroogies,

As Kirk points out, it's no use getting in a pissing contest. When I looked at CPQ, I saw a company losing or holding market share in markets that were low-growth markets anyway. Who the hell really wants to be in the hardware business? Dell is ultimately going to eat HPQ's lunch in Intel-based servers just as they've done and continue to do in PCs. Once a product has been "commoditized", the low-cost manufacturer wins. So Dell will soon own this market.

The only real value I believe HP gets from CPQ is the services business, and they waaaaaaaay overpaid for it.

Again, JMO, and you can have the last word -- I won't argue this point anymore with you.

Dave

p.s. The one HP person I found who supported the merger works in the PC division. Her view was that HP is losing money in the PC business, but that the two organizations together could make money. I had to laugh at the "but we'll make it up on volume" argument she presented.
