If a prion is a "protein that went bad" than how could you deactivate prions without also destroying the normal protein? (I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't understand the mechanism.) As I understand it prions are not organisms, they are improperly folded proteins and they can survive temperatures up to 1000 degrees F so cooking has no affect on them. Definitely more difficult to kill than bacteria or viruses.
