Mediacom and Concurrent Achieve a VOD Industry Milestone The Industry's First Commercial Deployment of Advanced Interactive Television Over Motorola's NAS System
MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. & ATLANTA, May 7, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Mediacom Communications Corporation (Nasdaq:MCCC), the nation's 8th largest cable television company, and Concurrent Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:CCUR), the pioneer and market leader in North American Video-On-Demand (VOD) commercial deployments, today announced the industry's first commercial deployment of VOD over Motorola's National Authorization Service (NAS). The extensive integration of the industry's leading video server platform, Concurrent's MediaHawk(R) VOD System, into Mediacom's complex Headend in the Sky (HITS) based network enables Mediacom to offer the most advanced iTV services to Main Street America. The full-scale deployment of VOD will pass 40,000 homes in the greater Mobile, Ala. area. Mediacom plans to deploy VOD in several additional new markets by the end of the year. Undertaking a significant integration effort across several technology platforms, this solution allows interactive content to be propagated and managed over satellite and transmitted to Mediacom's master headends and then distributed to their broadband customers, offering them advanced interactive TV services driving Revenue Generating Units (RGUs) and improving financial performance. |
