I don't see that article as bad news at all. "Many [MSOs] say they'll be happy if VOD keeps subscribers from switching to satellite or gets them to spend $15 more a month for digital cable, needed for VOD." This means expectations have been set quite modestly, while still recognizing the need - meaning far less chance for any disappointment.

Also the point about "either-or" with DVDs (and Blockbuster's rhetoric) is off target, I think. It might be entertaining to see "Training Day" on video/VOD, but I have absolutely NO interest in "owning" it on DVD, at any price. And I'm perfectly happy to have the additional four week lag to avoid the perpetual schleps to the video store, late fees, etc. (How much is my time worth?)

The point about cable bill "sticker shock" has some merit, but I think people are smart enough to realize that $4 extra (per VOD movie) spent on their itemized monthly cable bill is bottom-line the same as $4 spent out-of-pocket at BBI. This is just like your credit card bill that shows up at the end of the month - did that dinner seem to cost more just because you charged it? No - quite the opposite, in fact...

The last hilarious point is Blockbuster making noises to get back into VOD again. What, so they can continue to try to badmouth it? Just to try to shut their bricks-and-mortar critics up with lip service?

VOD stocks will rise again.
