GS conference:
Sprint guy says they adopted Java because of the number of software providers using it. Thinks Sprint launch is all about applications, thought the best avenue was Java. They have a service "BONGO?" where they bill for providers.

The Verizon guy is really taking some digs at analysts of wireless ignoring cash flow generation power of good companies in the sector.

He is very upbeat about express network evaluation by corporate users and press. Talking about 80kbps on average. Thinks that 1X will really drive data ARPU for VZ.
Says April gross ads were outstanding, driven by 1X.
Data and products available. Killer apps are SMS for handsets and speed for laptops and PDAs. Key for increasing overall revenue and ARPU. For consumers, SMS could be a sizable opportunity, quotes Europe. Says it is ramping very quickly. First quarter delivered 2 million messages a day.
Soon will have BREW. Available in San Diego. Nationwide very soon. Applications for navigation, productivity. Expects developers to really get going.
For express customers, access to all company accounts, e-mail, downloading files etc. Pricing is available in per minute or in per meg for heavy customers.
