| DJ H-P Launch -5: Sees Equal Strength Across Server Types
H-P outlined its product roadmaps across the range of its hardware and software offerings, including product transition and migration plans.

In the server category, the company plans to become the master brand for all server products, reiterating its commitment to the Intel Itanium processor line. The company plans to offer Itanium-based servers from the low end to the high end of its product line.

Hewlett-Packard adopted StorageWorks as the product name for its enterprise storage products. The company also named its storage software OpenView and adopted the acronym of ENSA, or enterprise network storage architecture, for its storage architecture.

The company said it will be equally strong in Unix, Windows and Linux-based servers, requiring middleware systems to support all platforms.

In the Personal Systems sector, H-P plans to capitalize on both the Hewlett-Packard and Compaq brands. Customers will be able to purchase both brands of consumer PCs and notebooks in stores and online.

In the commercial PC and notebook product lines, however, the Compaq brand will be retained and the HP brand will be dropped.

All other products, systems and services will carry only the HP brand, with product names for surviving products maintained.

Imaging and printing categories and product lines will remain the same, with the exception of Compaq-branded products. HP and Compaq digital projectors will be combined into a single product line under the HP brand, a transition that will occur over the next 12 months.
