| HP organises into 4 business units after Compaq merger - UPDATE
PALO ALTO, CA, May 07, 2002 (AFX-UK via COMTEX) -- PALO ALTO, CA (AFX) - Hewlett-Packard Co said it is now comprised of four business groups following its merger with Compaq Computer Corp completed last Friday.

The new business groups are the Enterprises Systems Group, HP Services, the Imaging and Printing Group, and the Personal Systems Group.

"Our management teams are in place in all 160 countries in which we operate," chairman and chief executive Carly Fiorina said, adding that the merged HP has three-year product roadmaps in place for all of its products.

The company's business and functional management teams are in place and it has named management teams three layers deep, including regional and country managers and top 100 corporate account managers, HP said.

HP has also set financial targets for each of its segments.

The Enterprise Systems Group will be led by Peter Blackmore as executive vice president and Ann Livermore will lead HP Services as executive vice president.

Executive vice president Vyomesh Joshi was tapped to lead the company's Imaging and Printing Group, while Duane Zitzner will lead HP's Personal Systems Group as executive vice president.

"We recognise that customers have made significant investments in HP and Compaq technology," president Michael Capellas said.

"We intend to protect those investments with detailed transition and migration plans."

HP will brand all of its server products under the HP name and remains committed to the Itanium processor family from Intel Corp, while it will drop the HP brand name for commercial PCs.

The newly-merged company will retain both the HP and Compaq brands for PCs aimed at personal users and all other products and services will carry only the HP brand.

The company's printing and imaging product lines will remain the same, apart from Compaq-branded products, HP said, adding that it will combine HP and Compaq digital projectors over the next 12 months under a single product line carrying the HP brand.

StorageWorks will be the company's product name for its enterprise storage products and its storage software will carry the OpenView brand name, which it will adopt for "all appropriate" management software.

The company will consolidate both the HP and Compaq telecom software into its Opencall product family that will be used to develop, integrate and deliver voice, data and converged services.

"The time is right for the new HP," Capellas said.

"Current economic realities are driving the information technology market to HP's strengths."
