Don't count on these people finding "new jobs" quickly. Most US Fabs
are starting to outsource their production (Motorolo, Lucent, AMD, TI, HPQ, ...).
Even that article talked about "layoffs" at Motorolo in Austin.
The "fact of life" is that most US IC companies cannot afford to
continue process development at 90nm on 300mm wafers. These companies
will go to the top foundries (TSMC, UMC, and CHRT) for their wafers. BTW,
I have been posting about this "business model" change for some time. In fact,
when Hector came over to AMD, I predicted that AMD would head this
direction since Hector is the ONE who started Motorolo down this path.
