| But the war on drugs puts Americans (usually black or low income people) in jails by the millions (except for the children of congressman, who seem to finagle community service instead of jail time), and finances organized crime, much as alcohol prohibition financed Al Capone and the cosa nostra. The real scourge of society, imo, is alcohol, it beats all drugs in terms of lives lost (car accidents, liver disease, etc.), marriages broken, sickness, work days lost, the AIDs virus is eight times more prevalent in alcoholics than in the general population and bankruptcies. I believe, we should educate people on the proper use of intoxicants rather than throw them in jail. My brother-in-law is from Holland, where marijuana is semi-legal (he has never use it). He says they educate the kids about the use of drugs and as result Holland has few drug related deaths and almost zero drug related . |
