Actually I suspect he is right that it would lower profit margins because supply would increase more then demand.

Current drug suppliers get a risk premium, they have to make a lot of money (or at least a good deal more then
they would otherwise likely make) to make it worthwhile to take the risks of arrest or of being shot by a rival dealer or a desperate junkie. If marijuna was treated like tobacco or alcohol there wouldn't be this risk premium. I think the violence would be lower with legal drugs, and we would also have less problems with prison overcrowding.

Of course if "legitimate companies" entered the business and sales were restricted to adults only I suppose the current dealers might look to minors as the one outlet where they could still control the market.
