Your argument falls flat because you assume that businesses, if allowed to keep more earnings and pay less taxes, would use said money for altruistic purposes or to grow the business, i.e., expanding plants, hiring more American workers, pumping more money into community projects, etc.

That may have been the case once, but it certainly doesn't hold true today.

The only thing that matters today is maximizing the corporate bottom line. If that can be accomplished by closing American plants, firing workers, moving the headquarters to the Cayman Islands ... then that is what will be done.

Corporate America doesn't give a rat's ass anymore about the worker, the community or altruism. The only thing that matters is the "appearance" of such.
