SAN FRANCISCO -- During a technology conference here today, ASML Holding N.V. predicted that its lithography-tool shipments would be flat-to-down in 2002 over 2001, but the Dutch-based company also projected break-even results by year's end.
The current semiconductor downturn caused ASML's overall lithography-tool shipments to fall by about 47% last year, from 362 units in 2000, to 197 in 2001, according to the company. In 2002, the company expects its tool shipments to range from 1% growth to a 14% decline over last year, said Craig DeYoung, director of investor relations for ASML, based in Veldhoven, the Netherlands.
In total, ASML's 2002 lithography-tool shipments will range from 170 units at the low-end of the forecast, to about 200 systems at the high-end, DeYoung said in a presentation at the JPMorgan H&Q Technology Conference.
ASML is expected to ship 70-80 tools in the first half of 2002, and about 100-110 units in the second half, DeYoung said. “If we're lucky, we will ship 120 systems in the second half,” he said. |
