Me also.

The probabilities of winning and the probabilities of finishing second or third are related but not perfectly.

The horses that are good enough to win often get involved in the contentious portions of the race trying to get into or maintain a position that will enable them to win. That can lead to a situation where some of the better horses actually finish off he board and cheaper horses suck up for second or third.

Most people key their exactas and triples among the horses they consider most likely to win without regard for these wierd trip potentials.

I personally also have a tendency to play too many saver type wagers that reduce value.
