It's a worse case scenario, but the fact is there is about 8 channels of unused spectrum. CDMA has a robust nature that would allow it to utilize about 4 of those channels. Look what happen to the ROBC's because of cheap unlimited access, their systems are overloading to the point of local "All circuits are busy at this time" are the norm today. It might be one reason that Cox/PacBell have a deal. On the voice side. It's more a win for PacBell to get folks off the PTSN voice system, so they can use the money to upgrade properly, instead of a bandaid temporary measure. I've no idea what IE4/Win 98 with Java and all that will be unleash is going to do to the amount of content being transfer, do you? It could make that single channel useless. Even though the cable is saying that they will reduce the node size, it starts to become a maintenance nightmare. You know there has to be a reason for the next LAN leaping to 1 Gbps. Also what if Oracle and Sun have the right approach? IS that going to rely on a wider pipe to be achieved? I really don't know, I've enough to worry about knowing to start a brand new career. I can say that on the commucation side they are wondering about future requirements. It might come down to fiber to the house before it's said and done.
