I might as well throw some gasoline on the fire. My pal David Horowitz, a denizen of the far left for many years, refers to the leaders of the environmetal movement as "Watermelons": Green on the outside and Red on the inside. David knows the players and what they are up to. It's the same old leftist agenda which he used to be part of. His old pals have found a new vehicle for promoting more and more government power, this time under the cover of the enviromental agenda. This has worked very well for them, because the army which they find following them is gullible and largely ignorant of what the movers and shakers are up to. Their goal of limiting private property rights and socializing more and more of our daily life is moving right ahead, under the guise of saving wetlands, saving endangered species, enforcing more restrictive clean air laws, and so forth. Christine not only will find licensing a 70's Fiat Spyder almost impossible under the new Smog Check 2 rules, she is going to find it harder and harder to be able to own any car. Next on the hit list of the Watermelon people are SUVs, the Broncos and Suburbans and Jeeps that are popular now. Get used to riding the city bus and peddling your bike, because that is the vision of the commisars of the environmental movement.
