We knew there were some, those the RUC/army could locate were found and destroyed.

Others were rather inconveniently located over the border, in Eire.

Other dumps and caches were known to exist - but not where (precisely). Of course, we could have sent in tanks, dispossessed the inhabitants, and run a house-to-house search - but that wasn't thought appropriate. Likewise, we could have imprisoned males found without publicity, trial or appeal, or even proof of suspicion... we got enough problems with the internment practice (which was IMO quite unjustifiable).

I'm not an expert on the behaviour of the army or RUC in Ulster, but I believe Laz, or Bill, or others are... why not ask them what they thought most reprehensible about it, and then use that as a baseline for the Israelis?
