Earlie from Earlie:

Almost three P.M. and it looks like there will be an effort to goose the markets into the close. Not really a surprise as many of us have been expecting an explosive bear market rally for many days and it is hard to beat a short covering panic for fireworks to the upside.

That said, it would not surprise me if it runs out of gas fairly quickly. To begin with, most bears have been antsy for many days and it sure looks like they all moved fairly quickly to cover hence much of the frenzied buying will dry up rather quickly this time around). As well, the CSCO numbers last night were simply an excuse for this rally as even my pet goat can see that they are relatively yukky. Look for an analyst or two to come out with a "market perform" (sell) on it within a day or two, once the fires die down a bit. (g)

I hear that IBM intends to hold a meeting with the analysts within a week or so. No doubt it has been called to discuss the wondrous demand for the company's products (not) or to discuss how easily IBM will be able to service its burgeoning debt (not). It couldn't possibly be to "warn" again could it?

Best, Earlie
