An Irish-American? I dunno about that, I have way more British ancestors even though I have this Irish surname. I prefer to think of myself as a Confederate-American, in honor of the Late Unpleasantness of the 1860s. My Irish forebears sailed over about 300 years ago, but I don't know the particular reason why. My English ancestors, some of them anyway, were on the wrong side of the English Civil War and came to the colonies to escape the heat.
