Barrick's lost some money (not a huge amount, but enough to be an irritation) on Enron bonds. Now, they do not want to say ... "Gee, with 20/20 hindsight, those Enron bonds were not our shining moment". So they say "we are no longer investing in corporate bonds anymore". I suspect that the reason they are using their counterparties is because they are forced into it by other measures. You already know you do not want to invest in this piece of junk. They sell forward their gold and invest in Enron bonds. What else are they doing that they are not admitting to?
