Del: Actually, speaking in tongues likely has been in Ashcroft's past, given the fact that his daddy was an Ozarks revival fires preacher.
This may have been covered before, but according to a story I saw, Ashcroft has written hundreds of gospel songs. As part of the Singing Senators (other members being Trent Lott, Jim Jeffords and Larry Craig), the quartet has performed at the Grand Ole Opry and in Branson, and has put out a CD.
Ashcroft, a gospel-singing son of an Assemblies of God minister, doesn't drink, smoke or dance. He can be stiff in formal settings, and even informal ones. "Some politicians dominate a room; he fades into the wallpaper," the National Review once wrote of him. |
