Yep. Same thing, I think. The end result is that for all intents and purposes the asset is owned by the company and the company owes money on the asset. That's why they call it a capital lease. The synthetic aspect to it is that they get to keep both asset and liability off the books, while just disclosing the restricted investments and sum of future lease payments due. Anyway, that's how I remember it, though I could be wrong.
