Thank you for this information! You have been very helpful!

Rececntly I was getting some intermittent hangs that related to either video or disk. I do have an old Rage II+ graphics card on my system. Also I always would get a hang in the initial stage of the start of my e-mail application. Allot of disk churning with no results. Then after some thinking, I discovered this started when I updated the drivers of my motherboard. I installed the new drivers in an attempt to solve a problem with my older CD drive. I found that the actual solution was to purchase another CD drive. So I used the driver rollback feature of Windows XP to uninstall the motherboard drivers, and go back to the version supplied with Windows XP. Now it looks like I do not have this problem anymore. Thank you Windows XP! And a big raspberry to the makers of the VIA chipset that has provided yet another set of drivers with problems! Ever since I started building systems with Intel chipset based boards instad of using VIA based motherboards, 95% of my problems went away. And I end up with a better performing system. I suspect I will have to upgrade my existing system to such a board.

I do find that the upgrade advisor is not thorough enough in its checking. And I found even when the vendor states their hardware with the latest driver works for Windows XP, this may not be true.
