How do you make money when you give NDS away for free?

How did NSCP make money when it gave its browser away for free? Market share. Of course you have to follow up with products to piggyback onto the free NDS. IF NDS becomes a standard then those companies that committ to developing products based upon it first MAKE MONEY. That means people in the customized software business selling everything from data entry apps to electronic commerce apps.

It also means Novell makes money from the server plumbing (IntranetWare) and the services (Bordermanager). That is where Schmidt's thrust to turn NOVL into a network services company comes in.

To turn your negative into a positive, you might ask how Novell will make sales of products that piggyback onto NDS? What piggyback products are they selling and how are they doing? Lets have the people from Novell answer those questions.
