I didn't define fascism. Chomsky did. And he did say as clearly as is possible that "it worked" - he credits fascism with ending the Depression and said that all successful countries had become "sort of fascist".

In the Fascist countries, it worked out well - they got out pretty fast. And in fact, every country became sort of fascist;

...everybody's fascist, the only question is what form the fascism takes: it takes different forms depending on the country's cultural patterns.

Of course he wouldn't call himself a fascist for obvious reasons. I was careful to quote the entire passage to avoid a charge I was mis-characterizing his views.

Your "facts" about Israel seem to involve obscure minor issues. FWIW Chomsky has testified to the freedom of the Israeli press before. Israel clearly has a free press unlike every other country around it.

As an example, on page 208 of "Understanding Power: The Indispensable Chomsky" (what a pompous title!), Chomsky speaks of an article of his that had been published in an Israeli paper:

...recently I had an article in Israel's most important newpaper, Ha'aretz, which is kind of the equivalent of the New York Times: it was an implied critique of their foreing policy, and of the so-called "peace process."

Now, if an anti-Israeli crank like Chomsky can get articles published in major papers in Israel - they must have a serious commitment to press freedom.
