I'm not sure what you are asking, Rich. The knives in 1776 averaged quite a bit longer and the firearms quite a bit heavier than today's weapons. I don't think I would do as well with a saber as I would need to survive, but I can do quite well with a revolver or semi-automatic handgun, shotgun, or rifle. I think it's reasonable to check your knife with your baggage when you fly, and you do not need a firearm while flying so it should be checked too.
