Rising gold is not the only factor, hedges made much more sense 3 years ago when you could lease a 1% and get 6%+ risk free in US Treasuries. As interest rates have dropped, the basic math just makes less sense.

Unless you use interest rate swap derivatives to increase the spreads,...but don't tell nickle, he will have a heart attack (ggggggggggggg)
