I do not require that governent be the provider of the educational product. Only that it provide the resources from the public till so that children whose parents are unable or unwilling to provide schooling obtain it nonetheless.

There are certain things which are in the common good. It is better for our society that children grow up healthy than unhealthy, so there is a public interest in providing adequate food and medical care for children whose parents cannot or will not provide it. It is better for our society that children be literate in the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the contemporary world, so ditto.

There are things children need to be productive, functioning citizens. If their parents can't or won't provide those, the society must, or it won't be a successful society for very long.
