Say what??? Forward and backward compatibility makes a world of difference.

Granted a IS95 handset will not support 1x data rates but you can place a voice call.

GSM-GPRS-WCDMA not a chance

GSM/ TDMA Carriers should be real happy about the additional subsidies if the network cost and spectrum do not break them first.
