I read one fellows book that said buying was a good indicator, but that selling or short positions wasn't really indicative of anything. Trying to remember his name -- he also said don't fight the Fed -- 3 rate easings and the market would be higher -- that hasn't worked so hot. His book looked at a lot of the sentiment indicators used to trade and told why they didn't work very well -- in trying to sell his own propietary indicator.
