God views us as better than nothing.

LOL. I would imagine not a whole lot better.

We need God because we want to join him in eternity--considering the alternative.

I would hope that we would be better company in heaven than we are on this pile of rock and dirt. If God is in some 'need' of company than it might seem that he has a ample company already in heaven.

The alternatives being non-existance or some hellish existance. The latter being very undesirable. But is the former so bad? It would be a non-event; a non-event would not be instrinisicly good or bad.

The discussion thought does suggest the existance of a soul, spirit, life force, etc. How do souls come about? We seem to think they are unique. Are they created for each new 'birth' or re-packaged from prior existences? Would God give us 'another chance' to get it right by placing the soul into another form...or is it...you've got 80 years [plus/minus] to get it right and then it's eternity..

Would a soul in eternity be permitted to communicate with another soul that is still on earth?

Souls would provide God eternal company, whereas humans provide God only a very fleeting moment of company in the context of eternity. The decision to join God might then we based on who would provide the best company in eternity. Learning how to sit in a pew and listen to a religious philospher teaches you how to be a passive listener...but that doesn't make good company. Would God want jla for company? One-liner, after one-liner.
