Dear Jerome: With all this talk about Wal-Mart, I'm going to share something with the thread I told a few people here about the beginning of last September. Basically, Sam's Clubs were going to liquidate their inventory of all HP computers and restock with Compaqs. The question that I have is: Did HP originally plan to go with the Compaq line of consumer computers then make a change (this past fall) and opt to go with both?

I'm friendly with a woman whose daughter is the store manager of a Sam's Club. On September 7 she went to Sam's Club. Her daughter spotted her and said she wanted to tell her something and took her over to the computer area. Pointing to the most expensive one, that had a 40G hard drive, she said, "Mom, you keep talking about getting another computer next year? This one is going to be sold for $600. [1/3 the regular price] in 3 weeks." Then she took my friend over to the office and showed her the document that had come down from corporate headquarters that gave the liquidation prices for all HP models Sam's Clubs sell.

About 2 weeks later I saw the daughter and asked her why Sam's Club was liquidating their HP computers. She said they were being replaced with Compaqs.

That was the last time I saw the daughter, but the inventory was *never* liquidated at that store. Given my friend who has zero interest in stocks saw the memo and I can not think of any good reason why either she or her daughter would lie, it makes me think the HWP/CPQ integration team itself changed it's mind and let Wal-Mart know.

Regards,

Lynn

P.S. This **might** be the last posting I am able to make for a few weeks up to a month. No postings is not an indication that I have sold my HPQ shares. I'm actually looking forward to our next, juicy dividend, twice what CPQ used to pay :o)
