Nice words, but to draw the analogy even further, some of my ancestors owned slaves, and had to have them ripped from their bleeding hands. It took enormous moral pressure for decades until people in this country finally became polarized enough to have a war about slavery and end it.

Followed by decades of Jim Crow serfdom which was almost as ugly and brutal as slavery.

White Southerners would have told you that they, too, built their own land.
