The parties in the middle east should be left alone to fight it out. North America and Europe should stay out until asked to provide help -

I think Bush was trying to get away with what you are describing, "Benign Neglect", a Foreign policy that would have kept us out of a lot the last 50 years, and saved the lives of a lot of Americans. Unfortunately, both the hard right and left in this country hate that position, and won't let our Government get away with it. They just have too many issues they want to be "busybodies" about. That is why we are involved all over the world at the moment.
