Bush will need to switch or gradually switch his stand

Look, this is Israeli Politics. 80% of the Israelis support Sharon on his attack on the Palestinians. 20% of the Israelis support the Likud on their attitude toward an Palestinian state. The Arabs, our chattering classes,(and John), will run about shouting and screaming about the Likud's position.

We have far left and far right positions in our Political spectrum that most of us, and the world, may hate. So what? They don't dictate what we do, and the Likud position will not dictate what the Israeli Government does.
