Oh yes, if you make money while the market is going down, then you are an undesirable smartass, whereas if you lose money along with everyone else, you are a Team Player.

Of course the funny part comes when the entire firm shuts down and all the Team Players are broke and without jobs.

The only person in my family who was ever in finance was a Robinson-Humphries broker (I think it was) in Atlanta, a great-uncle, who made some bad calls in 1929-32. Fortunately he had a ne'er-do-well brother who was a successful artist who lent him enough money to stay afloat and he became extremely wealthy by the 1950s.
