slacker:

... I might be wrong....but it seems like Unicom has more than 65% of China United subs...I came up with Unicom having about 80% of the total subscribers on March 31st...

You're probably right about the current split of subs between CHU and the total Unicom group being closer to 80% than 65%. It's hard to make anything out of a few weeks numbers, and frankly I'm not sure of how the present % share of the CDMA subs is split between the parent and the HK subsidiary CHU, though it's certainly skewed by the fact that CHU apparently got the bulk of the old Great Wall subs - 429,000 out of 443,00 total. This "running start" by the CHU part of the company will get diluted as the total number of subs increases over the course of the year.

I was agreeing with Laodeng's post that the overall Unicom Group's year end goal of 7 million CDMA subs was unchanged, and adding my own thought that likely the HK listed company would have around 2/3 of them (4.7 million), since that's how the overall GSM subs presently work out (both for Unicom and Mobile).

That 65%-67% number was also cited by Wang Jianzhou:

...China Unicom Ltd president and executive director Wang Jianzhou...speaking to reporters after releasing the company's 2001 results....said the group has no plans to change its target of reaching 7.0 mln CDMA subscribers this year.

"Our target for the group as a whole is to reach 7.0 mln subscribers this year for our CDMA services, of which two-thirds will be coming from our listed entity," he said...
