Using poll results to justify a foreign policy strategy is just the sort of thing President Clinton was criticized for by the Republicans. Now they're doing it themselves. So far the results of the Bush foreign policy, not only toward terrorism but toward Europe, Latin America, Russia, and of course the whole Middle East have been a real disaster. The few initiatives that had promise were wrecked quickly by inept diplomacy and/or unbelieveable statements from the administration that should never have been made public. From the point of view of a former foreign service officer, it's an example of sheer amateurism, pushed by ideologues who have little knowledge or experience in negotiating with people from other cultures.
