As far as a basic understanding of monterary policy is concerned I think you are deeply challenged. That is not necessarily your fault having grown up in Canada, but if it wasn't the case maybe you would see that the US dollar is not necessarily as impervious to a long lose of value as you think. That is really all we are talking about, if the US dollar is overvalued then the price of gold in US dollar terms is not going to meet your assumption of always going sideways to down. That should be pretty basic for a man of your experience.
