The Islamists can be negotiated with. Suppose, just for the sake of argument, that an Islamist nation came into possession of 3000 nuclear warheads and a complete set of ballistic missiles to threaten the US with. In this case, (1) You can negotiate with them. I would guess that the Iraq sanctions would be history, and we'd probably have to leave Israel alone. At worst, we might have to agree to mandatory Islamic education in our grade schools. But you can negotiate with them. By contrast, with the deep ecological believers, there purpose is not your "submission", but instead your death. There is no negotiation possible, not under any circumstances. (2) You can threaten to annihilate the Moslems in return. (This, by the way, is why even if an Islamist country did come into possession of 3000 nuclear warheads and the ballistic missiles to launch them, they still wouldn't be able to force the US to teach Islam to grade school kids.) Since the deep ecologists are fundamentally suicidal, it is impossible to threaten them. They see death as a service to Gaia.

Not that it matters much. It's quite clear to us "Gaians" that the existence of all these Twolegged "Freaks" of any and every stripe is proof positive that evolution is preparing to make another visitation.
I must object that this "world" you refer to when asserting that "the world is healthier and better fed now than it ever has been before," is no more than the ego centric "world" of the self-deceived Mom & Pop Twolegger.<g> And if its true that there are more chickens in more pots than ever before. Its just because more Mom & Pops have been homogenized and pasteurized and fully acclimated to sup from the "pot" of plenty than ever before. This is not necessarily a "good" thing in the fullness of time. <vbg>
What the Eco Freaks have right [ed., self-deceptions always have a patina of fact] is that "Gaia" doesn't favor pots of plenty forever, if at all. Moreover, the environmental niche which made your plenteous "pot" possible is clearly NOT the industry standard "ecosystem" in the Gaian LowTech Market. Unfortunately, the Eco Freak's - as in the case of all Twolegger Freaks - have made the characteristic Mom & Pop mistake of assuming that they can force their particular elegant and revolutionary designs on the entire Gaian Market. <Hoo Hoo>
Suffice to say that when "Gaia" decides to adopt a "new" industry standard, its very unlikely that she will require the assistance of any Twoleggers, be they Freak, or be they NonFreak. Indeed, the very best that you might hope for is that she decides to make the "new" standard backwards compatible. But then, I don't have to tell you what happens to "Legacy" designs. <sigh> ....And, as you know, there can be only one industry standard. <Hoo Hoo>
