Sam.

I have an account with H&Q, thus at least I am in a position to ask for allocations. So far I have only gotten a few hundred shares each time on hot IPOs, but I understand understand if they want to save the bulk of the IPO shares for Fido or the like.

As to discount houses, I don't use them as the commission saved is mot more valuable than the timely information and good execution I receive from some good full service houses. Although it is also true that some pay the full price and still get lousy services.

The Pru guys I work with are excellent. (No plug intended and I am say this only because you asked me.) If I placed an order of xyz at $ab.c price or better, I frequently got the "better" price in a rapidly changing market working in my favor. They certainly didn't pocket the "better" portion since I would not have known anyway.

Another full-service house gave me a much reduced commission rate through negotiation. They looked at my account--size and trading frequency--and accepted my proposal. Sometimes it is all relations that matter, like in everything else. I left out the name of this brokerage just to be discreet, since I don't know if they do this for everybody.

Regards,
Ibexx
