Tadiran Batteries Ltd as of 1/97 is split off from the parent Tadiran Telecommunications where it was in the Appliance and Battery division. That division made up 18.7% of revenues in 1996 (includes appliances, which may include refrigerators if you can believe the icon on the web page). That division was down 3.6% in revenues from 1995.

The lithium rechargable that they are touting is a metallic lithium battery in an AA size. It has about 1 gram of lithium metal, but no heavy metals (I always thought heavy metal was bad either in batteries or rock bands).

This battery is of limited application. It has the high energy characteristic of lithium metal batteries but doesn't like rapid charging or deep discharges. The company rates the recharge life down to 65% of original capacity (VLNC uses 80%, more conservative). Fast charging reduces the life by 2.5 times. Deep discharging (100% Depth Of Discharge) cuts life in half. If you fully discharge the battery and then rapid charge, it will last 100 cycles (and be only 65% the battery it was at the start). If you discharge the battery to 1/2 of its capacity, and then charge it at the nominal rate, it will last 500 cycles (and be only 65% the battery it was at the start).

What do you get? High discharge rates and high energy for a very limited time.
