Throughout, E and some others have exhibited a lack of understanding of how the legal process actually works. They seem to think that just because a lawyer writes a letter, people will instantly cave. Would that it were so!

When I get that result from a letter, it's not because I'm a lawyer but because I'm right and know how to make that point clearly enough that the lawyer on the other side gets it. I find most lawyers--and when I can I have a dispute witha company I try to write directly to the company's lawyers since they can usually put aside emotion and face facts objectively, and can get things accomplished--are quite sensible about recognizing when their clients are right, and when they're wrong.

Emotionality and personal investment in one's position are the enemies of thought. As, I fear, we see all too clearly in the recent discussions here.
