Although Democrats are still trying to cling to the popular vote in order to resuscitate their parties chances in the future, the simple fact is the popular vote means very little in the Presidential race.

If Texas had feared a close election, Bush would have picked up tens of thousands of additional votes, and maybe a lot more. If Big Media hadn't attempted to manipulate the process to help Al Gore by calling his victory so early, perhaps many thousands of votes for Bush would have been cast in Florida and other states.

If, if, if....the bottom line is Gore lost, Bush won. All the rest is political noise and nothing else.

All Al Gore had to do was win his home state and he couldn't do it. He failed to engender support from the people who knew him best.
