AMAT Applied Materials orders look strong (26.64 +1.06) -- Update -- The $1.69 bln order figure for Q2 compares favorably to estimates that were generally in the $1.3-1.4 bln range; high estimate we found was $1.5-1.6 bln from Salomon Smith Barney.

AMAT Applied Materials tops estimates by a penny (26.64 +1.06) Reports Q2 (Apr) earnings of $0.03 per share, $0.01 better than the Multex consensus of $0.02; revenues fell 45.9% year/year to $1.16 bln vs the $1.04 bln consensus; new orders of $1.69 billion for the second fiscal quarter of 2002 increased 51% from $1.12 billion for the first fiscal quarter of 2002, and increased 25% from $1.35 billion for the second fiscal quarter of 2001.

HPQ missed by a penny. BRCD is upping guidance. More later.

3:39PM Brocade confirms accidental release of guidance (BRCD) 24.08 +2.30: -- Update -- Stock halted; company issues press release confirming the guidance presented on two slides at a conference this morning, as we reported in the 14:37 comment. As mentioned in that prior comment, the guidance was for $145-150 mln in Jul qtr revenues and $12 mln in Apr qtr Silkworm 12000 revenues - both numbers were better than the Street had expected.
