'Encouraging Signs' in Japan -- Hubbard

PARIS (Reuters) - Top White House economist Glen Hubbard said on Wednesday he saw initial signs offering hope of a rebound in the Japanese economy.

"In the Japanese economy, we are starting to see encouraging signs, but I think growth prospects there are weaker than in the rest of the industrial world," he told a forum hosted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris.

"Outside the U.S., I think prospects for growth in the near term are weaker but encouraging. Eurozone growth should be modest," he added.
