Sam, I am both long and short on my LEAPS calls. I usually iniiated a position (or several positions for different strike prices) and ride the intermediate run, then short against the box, or rolled them into a further out-of-the money strike price. The "sweet spot" of an option is the strike price a couple of notches higher than the price of the underlying stock (where you have the largest increase in "delta". And I always want to catch those for maximum leverage benefits.) You need to get into the whole thing a bit deeper to appreciate the subtle things.
