I think there is a deeper and more serious complication
regarding the palestinians. Countries like Iraq, Iran
and Syria, or at least very radical, fundamental elements
within these countries along with radical, fundamental
elements within more "moderate" arab countries primarily:
Saudi Arabia have a strong influence, if not outright
control over Arafat and separately control and influence over hamas. To these factions, the more distant
Palestinian/Israeli crisis is a core issue. These
groups can plot and sabotage any movement towards a peace.
They are motivated to do so because they dont have to
suffer the immediate consequences. To them, its more ideologic than a practical problem which disturbs their
day to day lives.

If it were not for these distant influences, I strongly
believe Palestinians and Israelis would be living in
peace. The palestinians would have much going for them.
