well, in my case I was just implusive - I saw a buy it now (which generally I avoid like the plague) and jumped on it

3 days later, when I calmed down - I did some rudimentary googling and discovered my error

why people consistently buy new merchandise in my hobby is beyond me... anyone in the hobby is going to get a magazine,
and everyoe of those has many page listings of the discounters - or you can google the brand names and manufacturers and get plenty of discount hits, with many close out sales available to the public

but what happens is, eBay sellers buy the discounted items, list them on eBay at their cost and then reap $20 profits on
items that sell for $40. I know this, because it happened to me. I bought a discounters closeout, and as soon as I took it out of the box I knew it wasn't for me. put it on eBay and made a $15 profit after shipping...

and when eBayers buy items like that on eBay, generally they also over pay postage because USPS is relatively expensive over 5 pounds, and the discounters offer much better rates
on UPS

all in all - I cannot answer your question - to really find the bargins you have to know what you are doing, and even then maybe you only save $15- $20 over the discount price
(like I did last nite on a scanner)
