Great points. As to your point about immigrants, that could be ended by simply tagging everyone's social security account to their social security number. Meaning, go ahead and force me to save for social security like I do now, but give me the choices of private investments like mutual funds that I get now in my 401K. Then in addition to that, make it so that only I or my designated heirs get access to that money and its earnings over time. That way, all those people who wouldn't save if they weren't forced to, will be forced to by the government. In addition, people who come here for 5 years, only get 5 years worth of savings plus earnings returned to them. However, everyone would get a better return on their money and be guaranteed the benefits of their savings throughout their life. Most people in the system now, would have received far more in their retirement than they are receiving now, if we'd structured the system that way. As for those folks, who still don't get a good deal...the truth is there is no system in the world that can safeguard 100% of the people. So we need to pick something that will help most of the people most of the time and that is self-sustaining.
Socialism doesn't work folks. You can make it work in the short term, especially when you have a small populace like Sweden, but over the long term, they fail. History has proven that market driven economies and savings vehicles are the only mechanisms that work over the long term. |
